Lion Messenger: Launch Day
My latest project, Lion Messenger, is now live! Ya girl is back at it with new work. The goal is to have forty conversations with God over the course of Lent, a significant spiritual season in Christianity. Though this project wasn’t live on day one, I’ve included all previous days in this release. That being said, I will be going on vacation soon. The next update will happen once I’m back.
This piece feels like a return to form as I ease back into making art again. Animating these words parallels video editing. The unpredictable and live-update nature reminds me of performance art. This piece continues my exploration of interactivity. The idea for Lion Messenger isn't new though. It’s a project I’ve picked up and put down several times over the years. The timing is not lost on me, however. The time for this work is now.
It is terrifying to share Lion Messenger with the world. Navigating my spiritual life explicitly through my art is something I’ve been mulling over. I worry about how it’ll be perceived, how I will be judged. The first few messages get straight to the deep and dark, too. Yet, I feel compelled to make and share this anyway. Each new day brings unpredictable potential. I don’t yet know what the final evolution of this piece will look like, but I know that I have to do it. And I know that it will be good.
