Permanent Transition: Live!

The first iteration of Permanent Transition is now live! I accidentally left it locked, but now it should accessible to all. This is the first project I've done of this kind, so it's been a learning experience through and through.

Permanent Transition has quite literally been years in the making. Interactive artwork with game elements is something I've been thinking about for years. It's also my first piece that is deeply personal and public. This piece is the synthesized summary of my recent life: redefining my relationship with video games and online communities, reflecting on my withdrawal from other important relationships, all while battling old demons and depression. Learning to navigate Itch.io (what's a devlog) itself has been new too! It's exciting to make something completely new in a different medium. I look forward to making more interactive work and continuing my experimentation.

Though Permanent Transition may be considered interactive fiction, I don't consider myself a writer (or coder) by any means: if anything I feel as if I've been animating words in this project. I expect to discover typos, transition, and/or animation bugs that didn't translate well and will update the project as needed. I have some other navigation ideas I'd like to try and implement in the future as well (they won't change the narrative or original experience). In the meantime, thank you for participating in this piece and experiencing my story. I hope viewers walk away with new insight into how others may struggle in this world.
